Hebrews 7:25
Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to
God through Him, since He [Jesus] always lives to make intercession
for them.
Jesus ALWAYS lives to make intercession
In this verse we have the entire gospel. He is able to do what? To
save forever. Jesus is able to save us. He is our saviour and the result
is that we draw near to God through Jesus. We do not draw near to God
in order to be saved. It is only through repenting and trusting Jesus
Christ as our saviour that we then draw near to God (through Jesus).
One we are saved can we keep ourselves saved?
No. There is nothing we can do to save ourselves and there is nothing
we can do to ensure our continued salvation.
We once had a lady involved with our ministry who was going about telling
people there were saved, until they broke one of the TEn Commandments.
If you break God's laws, you lose your salvation and need to start over
again. But, here's the problem, even after we are born again (saved),
we are not perfect. We still sin... which means we still break God's
laws. And that's why Jesus always...
...LIVES TO MAKE INTERCESSION FOR THEM (those who are saved).
Jesus is always there making intercession for believers, and preserving
our salvation. We can't do it. Jesus can. It is because of Jesus that
we have assurance of salvation. What the Father gives to the Son, no
one and nothing can take away.
All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes
to Me I will certainly not cast out. For I have come down from heaven,
not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the
will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing,
but raise it up on the last day.For this is the will of My Father, that
everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life,
and I Myself will raise him up on the last day. - John 6:37-40
